Interior Health is implementing a new system to improve our surgical waitlist and scheduling capabilities as well the patient experience, including related communications with patients. We would like to capture the patient perspective through a series of meetings and demonstrations.

Aim
To improve our ability to manage waitlists and reduce wait times. To provide improved tools to support staff through the scheduling processes. To improve communications and information sharing between the Health Authority and Surgeon offices. To improve the patient experience, interactions (including electronic communications) and awareness.
The patient partner will be asked for direct input to ensure we are aligned with patient needs/expectations, to support the implementation and post go live evaluation.

Level of Engagement
This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will involve patients in planning and design phases to ensure ideas or concerns are considered and reflected in alternatives and recommendations.

Eligibility
• Experience (direct or indirect) with the patient surgical journey (familiarity with the process) would be an asset.

Logistics
• Number of patients: 2
Meeting times to be determined but will be held weekly for 1-3 hours
At this time, meetings will be held virtually but hope to be held in person when the pandemic restrictions ease
It is anticipated that this work will continue for up to 6 months

Reimbursement
There are no expenses anticipated with this working group.

Background
This project, Surgical Waitlist Management and Scheduling Solution (SWMSS) is a province wide project involving 3 Health Authorities and 5 hospitals for phase 1.

Project teams and stakeholders include technical, clinical, administrative, and executive members encompassing the scope of work from the surgeon office, pre-surgical screening, scheduling and operating room.

The care setting for this work is primarily acute care.
