Aim

The South Island Facility Engagement Initiative Working Group makes decisions about how to allocate funding to physician-led initiatives to promote engagement with fellow physicians, health authority colleagues, and allied health care providers, and helps to improve patient care. We are looking for a patient partner to sit on the Working Group of the South Island FEI Society (a mirror organization of the MSA) to provide the patient’s perspective of these initiatives and help us continue to promote better patient care.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will involve patients in planning and design phases to ensure ideas or concerns are considered and reflected in alternatives and recommendations.

Eligibility

Open to patient partners from the Victoria area Adult, 18 years or older A keen interest in improving the quality of health care and supporting local, physician-led quality improvement projects Comfort and experience working in large groups Ability to join meetings by video or teleconference Please note:
  • The placement process for this opportunity may include an informal interview between the volunteer and the health care partner (a member of the South Island MSA Executive).
  • Applicants must have previously attended a PVN orientation session and completed the Volunteer Agreement. If you have not attended an orientation session but you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Ashley Clark directly to see if accommodations may be possible.

Logistics

Number of vacancies: 1 • Date/Time: Meetings are three/four times a year in the evening (6:00-7:30pm). Pre-readings are required. • Location: Teleconference/videoconference at this time. In-person meetings may resume in the future depending on health policy guidelines, which take place in the Victoria • Commitment: Up to 12 months

Reimbursement

Pre-approved dinner (during any Working Group meetings) and parking costs (for in-person meetings only) will be reimbursed within two weeks.

Background

The Facility Engagement Initiatives (FEI) is a provincial-level funding opportunity designed to promote better engagement between physicians and their health authority colleagues. At Royal Jubilee Hospital and Victoria General Hospital in Victoria, the South Island Medical Staff Association (MSA) has used the FEI funding to implement a wide variety of engagement, quality improvement, and wellness initiatives.
