Public Awareness Committee Member Positions

The Canadian Medication Appropriateness and Deprescribing Network is actively seeking community leaders, medication safety advocates, and individuals with diverse lived and living experience with medications to join our Public Awareness Committee.

What do Public Awareness Committee members do?
Public Awareness Committee members play a crucial role in promoting safe and appropriate medication use for all Canadians by:
• Raising public awareness of medication overload (taking more medications than necessary or taking multiple medications that together cause more harm than good) in their community and region.
• Developing educational tools and resources to share with Canada’s diverse communities.
• Guiding the Network, ensuring the perspectives of the public and those with lived and living experience inform and shape our public awareness activities.
• And much more!

• Strong involvement with an organization in your community or region that advocates / offers services to support community well-being.
• Lived or living experience with the impacts of medication overload and deprescribing, as a patient, caregiver, or friend.

We strongly encourage applications from racialized persons / visible minorities, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientation or gender identity (people from the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community) and others who may contribute to the diversification of ideas in our network. Applicants from Ontario, Quebec, the Territories and Prince Edward Island are also encouraged.

Where those of us in the room may have debated policy or wording, patient voices made sure patients were top of mind. And as a result, significant improvements were made to simplify something that was otherwise complex. Patient voices at the table bring us back to reality in terms of what we are trying to achieve.
