Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is creating a short video to welcome all inpatients to the hospital. We are keen to have a patient advisor be part of the core team to ensure the most important and relevant information is included.

Aim

In order to provide a different venue to welcome patients to our site, and ensuring we maintain a focus on the most important information from a patient perspective, we are seeking patient partners to work with us in the development and prioritization of content for a new welcome video for all inpatients.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

  • Have experience of hospital health services within Island Health (as a patient, family member or informal caregiver);
  • Comfortable sharing patient experiences in a group setting for the purposes of learning and quality improvement;
  • A skilled listener who is respectful of a broad range of views;
  • Previous experience as part of committee or quality improvement project is an asset, but is not required;
  • Resident of Nanaimo
Please note: This opportunity is not open to patient partners who are currently employed by Island Health. Applicants must have previously attended a PVN orientation session and completed the Volunteer Agreement. If you have not attended an orientation session but you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Ryan Sidorchuk directly to see if accommodations may be possible. If you have a strong interest in this work but have not yet completed a PVN orientation and volunteer agreement, are unsure if your experience is a good fit or feel another format of engagement would work better with your availability, please contact the engagement leader directly.

Logistics

Vacancies: 2 Date/Time: In November, based in part on Patient Partner availability Location: Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, Room, Date and Time TBD Commitment: The time commitment would be a 1 to 3 meetings that would each be between 1 and 2 hours.

Reimbursement

Local travel (mileage/parking) expenses as applicable according to Island Health rates will be reimbursed.

Background

Nanaimo Regional General Hospital recognizes that a multimedia approach is a different way to reach our patients and families. By having a video we could get some key messages to our community in a different way. The Nanaimo District and Hospital Foundation has kindly offered to support this video creation and we also have the equipment on site in several key areas to highlight this video.
