Aim

The goal of the Information Governance (IG) Council is to oversee information governance at Island Health. A patient partner can offer insight on how information governance processes and IG Council decisions might impact patients.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will involve patients in planning and design phases to ensure ideas or concerns are considered and reflected in alternatives and recommendations.

Eligibility

  • Able to share opinions in a respectful manner in a large group setting.
  • Preference will be given to a patient partner with experience or understanding of data/information management in the health care system but this is flexible
  • Open to patient partners from across Vancouver Island
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn

Logistics

Number of vacancies: 2 Location, Date, Time and Frequency: Meetings are scheduled for the first Monday of each month. If the first Monday is a statutory holiday, the meeting will be the second Monday. First meeting will be September 10, 2018, 2:30 PM-4:00 PM. *Note that the September meeting will be on the second Monday of September due to the Labour Day Holiday. Initiative Format: Working group/ Committees Connection Method: In-person or teleconference Commitment: One year or more

Reimbursement

When incurred, pre-approved mileage and parking will be reimbursed to the nearest videoconferencing location (as applicable) and/or the meeting location (if in your city).

Background

This opportunity arose with the creation of a new group, the Information Governance Council. Members of the Council include Managers, Directors and Executive Directors of Island Health and 2 PVN Patient Partners. The patient partners will be asked to review meeting documents and gain a level of understanding of information governance issues at Island Health; attend and participate in approximately 9 meetings a year, one and a half hours each, by video conference or in person at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria; and offer a patient perspective on information management and information governance issues addressed by the IG Council. Decisions, updates of work, and outcomes of IG Council work will be shared at meetings when the patient partner is in attendance. In addition, outcomes of recommendations or decisions the patient partner was involved in will be shared by e-mail if the patient partner was not at a meeting where the outcomes or results were discussed. The Terms of Reference are still being drafted. There are no other background materials available at this time.
