Canadian Hospital Pharmacists of BC is working to spread awareness and understanding to the general public about the roles of pharmacy teams in hospital settings. We are looking for patient volunteers to join our committee meetings in the Vancouver area. Help us spread the word on how pharmacy teams can help improve patient care and outcomes.

Aim

Canadian Hospital Pharmacists of BC is a professional voluntary organization that represents pharmacists and pharmacy technicians that work within health authorities in hospitals and clinics. We are hoping to include patient representatives on a committee focused on spreading awareness around pharmacy roles in health care. Patient partners would add a lot of value and insight in terms of how we can make our public outreach efforts  the most relevant and efficient. The patient partners will be asked to review our engagement campaign material and help us to identify some of the gaps that we can close in terms of knowledge and awareness.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work with you to ensure that your ideas and concerns are reflected in recommendations and provide feedback on how your input affected the decision.

Eligibility

  • Patient or family member who has had an interaction with pharmacy team member in an institutional setting (hospital visit, clinic or facility associated with the hospital).
  • Comfortable telling their story and providing feedback.

Logistics

Number of vacancies: 2 Location: Vancouver area - around St. Paul's Hospital or VGH Date/Time: Meetings are typically one a month, on weekdays during business hours. Participation can be in-person or via teleconference Commitment: minimum three months

Reimbursement

Refreshments will be provided. The organizer is waiting for confirmation, but the intention is that expenses related to travel (mileage, parking, transit) will be reimbursed.

Background

The Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists are the national voluntary organization of pharmacists committed to patient care through the advancement of safe, effective medication use in hospitals and other collaborative healthcare settings. At the end of this initiative, they hope to have tools and documents to help describe to the public what pharmacists working in the health authorities can do for them. This committee is composed of hospital pharmacists who volunteer to help move this initiative forward. The care settings we will be trying to spread awareness about are Acute Care, but also Residential Care and Clinics associated with the health authorities and serviced by the Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services.
