Improving the care of people with severe mental health and addictions is vital to a healthy British Columbia.   BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services is transforming the way they support people with lived experience, and their family members, across British Columbia.  The Partnerships in Care Committee is seeking patient and family voices in the creation, implementation, and evaluation of services directed at BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services.

Lead Organization or Department

Provincial Health Services Authority - Centre for Mental Health & Addictions, Burnaby

Aim

Patient and family partners will be a standing member of the committee, responsible for advising on the development of clinical, programming and facilities development, ensuring a client-and family-centered approach  Patient and family partners may also lead projects and establish time-limited sub-committees and needs are identified. For example, to develop a resource handbook for new families of Burnaby Centre

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will involve patients in planning and design phases to ensure ideas or concerns are considered and reflected in alternatives and recommendations. For specific projects, this opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement.

Eligibility

• Patient and family partners in British Columbia who have experience with residential level care for mental health and addictions, either as a family member or a person with lived experience • Patients should have previously attended a PVN orientation session.  If you have not attended an orientation but are interested please contact Jami directly to see if accommodations may be possible

Logistics

• Number of vacancies:  10 • Date and Time:  Date and time will be scheduled based on availability of patient partners, with the preference of ThursdayLocation:  Burnaby Centre for Mental Health & Addictions or by teleconference province wideCommitment:  One and a half hours, once per month, one-year term, in person or via teleconference

Background

Burnaby Centre for Mental Health and Addiction (BCMHA) is a provincial tertiary care facility for adults with severe and concurrent mental health and substance use disorders. People with concurrent disorders in BC are highly underserved, often living with other challenges that further complicate their concurrent disorders and make recovery challenging. BCMHA is the only integrated program of its kind in BC. In 2021, BCMHA will be transferring service to the Red Fish Healing Centre for Mental Health and Addiction on the Riverview Lands in Coquitlam, BC.
