Improving the quality and safety of health care services is critical to see that those services meet the needs of patients. Including the patients’ voice helps health care providers understand those needs. Campbell River Hospital is seeking patient involvement in two quality committees focused on the hospital and seniors care.

Aim

The aim of the Campbell River Hospital Quality Committee is to review cases and data to make recommendations to improve patient care. Patient partners bring a unique perspective to the discussion and ensure that all aspects of patient care/experience are considered. Partners will be asked to listen to and read case reviews, comment and ask questions. As part of the committee, they will work collaboratively to define recommendations, if required. Partners on the CRG Geriatric Quality Committee are asked to bring their perspective and insights to reviews and improvement ideas for seniors care. We work collaboratively to define improvement projects and review projects on an ongoing basis.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work with you to ensure that your ideas and concerns are reflected in recommendations and provide feedback on how your input affected the decision.

Eligibility

Ability and comfort with:
  • Telling their story as it relates to systemic improvement;
  • Looking for underlying issues in complex reviews;
  • Asking questions and reflecting on possible solutions; and
  • Creative problem solving.

Logistics

Number of vacancies: 2 for the hospital wide quality committee; 2 for the Geriatric Quality Committee (4 total) Location, Date, Time and Frequency:
  1. CRG Quality Committee is once per month from 730-830 in the Boardroom of CRH
  2. CRG Geriatric Quality Committee is currently just forming and will be once per month, unknown date/time at this point but during the day time hours.
Initiative Format: Working group/ Committees Connection Method:
  • In-Person
  • Teleconference
Commitment: Seven months to a year

Reimbursement

Reimbursement of pre-approved mileage and parking as applicable.

Background

Island Health is moving to a more robust quality structure and these working groups are extensions of that work. The CRH Quality Committee reflects the entire hospital. The CRG Geriatric Quality Committee is strictly reviewing the care of seniors.
