We want to hear from patients and families about their experiences getting medical equipment to help them live safely at home. This might be equipment needed for a short time—like after surgery—or for a longer time, such as while waiting to move into long-term care.

We’re hoping to learn from a wide range of people, including those who are active and independent, as well as those who have more complex needs and may be isolated at home.

These discussions will help us better understand the real-life challenges people face when trying to get the equipment they need. We also want to learn more about what supports and resources people currently have.

We plan to connect with participants through small group conversations, either online or in person. Patient input will help us design equipment provision services that better meet people’s needs to live safely at home, while making sure we’re using resources effectively. This means focusing support and providing services only to clients who need it most, in a way that’s sustainable and responsible.

It has been so rewarding to go from an idea to working with such a great group of dedicated people from so many different organizations towards a very fun and rewarding project. Several extremely engaged PVN members expressed interest in being part of piloting a patient virtual care peer support system. I am confident that this is the beginning of many more exciting collaborations!
