The District of Lake Country is beginning the co-design of a new Community Health Clinic that will provide primary care while strengthening the health and wellbeing of the community.

This project is about more than establishing another medical clinic. It is an opportunity to work alongside residents, health care providers, community organizations and local partners to design a clinic that reflects what matters most to the people of Lake Country and responds to the community’s evolving needs.

We are seeking lived experience perspectives to help shape the clinic from the very beginning. We are particularly interested in learning about people’s experiences accessing health care, navigating services, finding the support they need, feeling welcomed, respected and included within the health care system.

Our goal is to design with community, not for community. We especially welcome participation from people who have experienced barriers accessing care or whose voices are not often included in health care planning and decision-making.

Participation may include interviews, workshops, Design Team participation or other collaborative activities throughout the project.

The question I like to ask health care employees is ‘Who is this for?’ and ‘Do we have the right people at the table?’ As a health care employee, I see how easy it is to fall into doing for, rather than doing with patients. The voices of the patient, family and caregiver are essential to ensure the patient is central to the direction and focus of the work being done.
