The Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP) is the national organization representing pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other support staff. In late 2022, the CSHP Board struck a Vision Task Force who’s mandate is to develop and recommend a new Vision for the Hospital Pharmacy Profession in Canada. The Vision will be integrated into CSHP’s next Strategic Plan for 2024-2027.
The Task Force has completed extensive research and has now arrived at approximately 30 vision statements and a proposed framework for this vision. CSHP is inviting a patient partner as a key stakeholder in the process to help us evaluate the statements and framework.
The evaluation will take place as a “modified Delphi process”. The Delphi method is a decision making technique which uses multiple rounds of evaluations using questionnaires sent to a panel. It will be conducted asynchronously and remotely so participants will have flexibility to complete the questionnaire on their own time. There will be 3 rounds of this evaluation process. The first round is expected to take place in July, then each month, there will be another round of evaluation on the statements.

Where those of us in the room may have debated policy or wording, patient voices made sure patients were top of mind. And as a result, significant improvements were made to simplify something that was otherwise complex. Patient voices at the table bring us back to reality in terms of what we are trying to achieve.
