Interior Health Critical Care leaders strive to deliver quality person- and family-centred care in tragic and uncertain times. Through 1-hour conversations 3 times a year, we are seeking input from former Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients, families, and/or visitors to help us improve our practices and cultivate trusting relationships with our community members.

To improve how our patients, family members, and visitors experience their time in Interior Health Intensive Care Units (ICUs). Patient partners will share how that experience was for them, recommendations for improvement in visitor policy, staff communication and behavior, and patient information and resources.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will involve patients in planning and design phases to ensure ideas or concerns are considered and reflected in alternatives and recommendations.


• Experience as a patient, family member, and/or visitor in Interior Health ICUs  in the communities of Kelowna, Kamloops, Vernon, Penticton, Trail and Cranbrook • Comfort sharing their positive and negative experience


Number of vacancies: 10 Location, Date, Time and Frequency: • One hour virtual webinar and/or telephone conversations will be held in June, and October and mid-February. • Patient Partners will be asked to share their positive and negative experiences and recommend improvements to Critical Care leaders who create and revise policy, staff education, and patient resource information • June 26@ 4pm is the suggested date and time for the first meeting. If you are not available at this time or more comfortable speaking one on one with a Critical Care leaders than speaking in a group, that can be arranged.


There will be no reimbursable expenses associated with this opportunity.


The Critical Care Network is constantly reviewing and updating practices and the patient voice is crucial for development of an inclusive culture. Critical Care leaders have primarily focused on patient care and medical treatment, striving for evidence-based practice and innovation. The patient, family, and visitor experience has been of more interest to leaders over the last decade and we know we can do better. Critical Care leaders can guide improvements through policy and procedure revisions, staff education, and patient and family support resources and we need your input to do that. Three times a year, the Interior Health Clinical Nurse Specialist will hold a Webinar session with identified Patient Partners across Interior Health, with the aim of learning more about successes and challenges patients or loved ones experienced during a recent stay in ICU. This information will be considered in revision of policy and procedures, staff education, and creation of resource and support materials.
