The HSO Correctional Service Canada Health Services standard will provide Correctional Service Canada health care teams and leaders with evidence-informed practices that define how they can work collaboratively to deliver high-quality and safe health care that meets the distinct needs of Correctional Service Canada’s diverse population of clients.

This standard is a revision of the HSO 34008:2018 Correctional Service of Canada Health Services standard. The new standard focuses on:
• client-centred care practices that respect clients’ distinct rights and needs, including those of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, and protect clients’ privacy, dignity, and confidentiality;
• safe, reliable, equitable, and trauma-informed care based on evidence-informed practices;
• a healthy and competent workforce to ensure sustainable, team-based, and integrated care; and
• an organizational culture that is outcome-focused and committed to continuous learning and quality improvement.

The bottom line is because we’re caring for patients. People who know best are those who are receiving the care so it makes logical sense that we would consult with them about their experiences. By connecting with PVN we have been able to educate our teams about the value of patient partners and how important their perspective is in our services.
