In 2018, the BC Ministry of Health committed to endorsing and supporting improvements in the delivery of Primary Care across Health Authorities in BC. Currently, Island Health operates seven Urgent and Primary Care Centres (UPCC). Over the next two years Island Health plans to expand its Primary Care service delivery in Campbell River. As part of this commitment, patient voices will be included in community committees via Patient Partners.

The Campbell River UPCC Steering Committee is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation and sustainability of excellent urgent and primary care in community. This committee will provide guidance, align resources with goals and facilitate decision making for various working groups. The committee will aim to role model, endorse and deliver a team-based approach in collaboration with the Primary Care Network, acute and tertiary care partners and non-clinical partners to steer the implementation of a full system of health care for the community.

The Island Health Primary Care Strategy team is seeking 2 patient partners to join the Campbell River Urgent and Primary Care Centre Steering Committee.

Recently, a PVN Patient Advisor asked healthcare partners, “What are we learning from patients, families, and others thus far during this pandemic?”. This is an excellent question and one to ask ourselves daily.
