The second phase of the Burnaby Redevelopment project includes increasing the inpatient beds and expanding cancer services. The project is committed to including all perspectives and has had a great experience partnering with patient partners during the first phase. Planning for the second phase has begun which includes recruitment of patient partners.

Areas of focus for this phase includes:
• Emergency Department
• Medical Inpatient
• Intensive Care Unit
• Cardiac Telemetry
• Spiritual Care Suite
• Outpatient Services

Engagement activities for these focus areas will include participation in user group meetings, mock-ups, and patient journey mapping. There will also be an opportunity to share your feedback and experiences on public spaces such as the lobby, outdoor spaces, wayfinding, and signage. A variety of engagement methods will be used and will include, virtual meetings, In-person workshops, and Email.

It is expected that patient partners will be engaged on average, once every 2 weeks, however, this will vary based on the focus area and project deadlines.

Fraser Health is making significant investments in health care throughout the region to upgrade our hospitals and facilities. The Burnaby Hospital redevelopment project will provide residents in this growing community with improved access to quality care. The multi-phased Burnaby Hospital project will see two new patient care towers, a new cancer centre and expansion and renovations to existing buildings.

PVN has really helped us engage with patient partners to improve health services at Northern Health.  It is more and more becoming the norm to include patients in the design, delivery and evaluation of health services.  PVN education and supports, involving patient partners, have enabled us to develop the capacity to include the patient voice to make care better and achieve better health outcomes.
