The Priority 911 questions are a critical part of BCEHS’s ability to mitigate risks to patient safety in circumstances where Emergency Medical Call-Taker (EMCT) capacity is saturated. Preliminary data suggests that the current iteration of questions is functioning as intended and screening in a higher fraction of high acuity calls. However, there is no alternative set of questions against which to compare.

We are proposing a pilot trial to compare a carefully revised set of Priority 911 questions against the current state. Our hypothesis is that the overall performance for Priority 911 can be improved. We do not anticipate significant risks as a result of this pilot trial. Furthermore, we see significant upside potential in refining what we believe to be a key resiliency measure within the BCEHS 911 Dispatch system.

As for the patient engagement, we hope to conduct a focus group with our patient representatives to capture their thoughts and feedback on the revised Priority 911 questions to ensure they are clear and easy to understand.
