Staff from the BC Children’s Hospital Family Library are updating a booklet about the Child and Family Clinic. The Child and Family Clinic is the home of the Child Protection Service Unit (CPSU). The CPSU offers assessments in cases of potential child maltreatment from around BC. The interdisciplinary team provides medical and mental health assessments in a positive, relaxed, child-centred environment.

This engagement is about the booklet that families receive when they are referred to the Child and Family Clinic. We want to ensure the booklet clearly explains what the Clinic does. We also want the booklet to help families feel safe when visiting the clinic. To do this, we hope to speak with parents and caregivers (aged 19+) who have visited the clinic in the last 3 years.

This engagement can take place in-person or virtually. All communication is one-on-one.

After engaging, Family Library staff will remove all names and identifying information. Then, we will share what we learned with the Child and Family Clinic. Participating will not affect the care you or your family receive at BC Children’s Hospital.

You can withdraw your consent to participate at any time.

On completion of the engagement, you will receive an honorarium of $60. You can choose the payment method that works best for you.

This engagement is about the content, language and layout of the booklet. We will share questions in advance of the in-person or virtual meeting.

We want you to feel safe. You can opt out at any time.
If you need support after the engagement, a Registered Clinical Counsellor is available to provide a one-time online counselling session.

It has been so rewarding to go from an idea to working with such a great group of dedicated people from so many different organizations towards a very fun and rewarding project. Several extremely engaged PVN members expressed interest in being part of piloting a patient virtual care peer support system. I am confident that this is the beginning of many more exciting collaborations!
