Commitment: Short-term

Open to Provincial Region, Patient partners across BC

Last updated

BC Cancer currently offers limited resources on alcohol use during cancer treatment. To help fill this gap, a team—including a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Patient & Family Counsellor and an Oncology General Practitioner—is developing a new resource for patients, and they are seeking one partner to provide input.

Your feedback will help shape this resource to:
• Offer clear and useful information for people with different experiences of alcohol use.
• Reduce stigma, so patients feel safer talking about alcohol and cancer.
• Support healthcare providers in having compassionate, non-judgmental discussions about alcohol use with patients and caregivers.

We will meet virtually, or on the phone. Likely 3 – 1h meetings; from end of May- June.

We want to reduce the stigma around using alcohol while having cancer treatment, so people will talk to their health care team about their alcohol use.

Recently, a PVN Patient Advisor asked healthcare partners, “What are we learning from patients, families, and others thus far during this pandemic?”. This is an excellent question and one to ask ourselves daily.
