Background

The overall project is to develop a new seven-year strategic plan for Providence Health Care. This plan will include a clear articulation of our vision and goals, as well as the strategies and initial tactics and projects and measurements to achieve those goals. This plan will ensure we will achieve our vision and will set out our priorities for the future and meet the health care needs of the people we serve. The goal is to create a plan that captures our philosophy based on our mission, vision, and values to guide not only what we do, but how we do things. The purpose of strategic planning is to set our overall goals for the organization and to develop a plan to achieve them. The intent is to engage Providence staff, physicians and researchers as well as patients, residents and families, and other external stakeholders. Data gathering will take place between November 5 and December 12 via open forums, small group discussions, pop-ups and online engagement technology.

Where those of us in the room may have debated policy or wording, patient voices made sure patients were top of mind. And as a result, significant improvements were made to simplify something that was otherwise complex. Patient voices at the table bring us back to reality in terms of what we are trying to achieve.
