Do you take medications? The Institute for Safe Medications Canada is looking for volunteer consumer reviewers to work with them as advisors on their consumer newsletter about medications (SafeMedicationUse.ca). You don’t have to be a medication expert to add value to the team, but it helps to be taking medications.

What will you be working on: The one-page newsletters provide useful tips for consumers on how to be proactive in preventing medication errors. Here are some samples: SafeMedicationUse.ca newsletters.

How much time do you need to give: They are looking for consumers who can give five hours per year (about one hour, four times a year). You don’t have to go anywhere – everything is done through email and online.

The rewards: Unfortunately, the organization cannot offer financial compensation, but as a consumer reviewer you are contributing to an important cause—keeping everyone healthy by preventing medication errors. You will also learn a lot about how mistakes happen and how to prevent them from happening again.

How to sign up: If you are interested in being part of the team, or if you have any questions, please email Dorothy Tscheng at Dorothy.Tscheng@ismpcanada.ca.

Recently, a PVN Patient Advisor asked healthcare partners, “What are we learning from patients, families, and others thus far during this pandemic?”. This is an excellent question and one to ask ourselves daily.
