External Engagement Opportunities

Check out engagement opportunities administered and supported by organizations other than PVN.

We are passionate about increasing opportunities for the patients’ voice to be heard. Whether opportunities are administered through the Patient Voices Network or a partner organization, we encourage you to add your voice to the conversations that lead to better health care in BC. Here is where you can find out about the latest, greatest ways to be a part of engagement opportunities that our partnering organizations have to offer, outside of PVN.

By sharing these opportunities, we hope to increase the variety of meaningful engagement opportunities and connect organizations with patient partners seeking to make health care better.

Choose the opportunities you like and respond directly to the organizations offering them:

Community Dialogue on Health Research
Health research depends on all kinds of people. No matter what your age, whether you are healthy or sick, you can help by volunteering to participate in research in a variety of ways. You’re invited to a Community Dialogue on the development of a new program in British Columbia that will help connect people like you to research opportunities. The event will take place on August 30, at 2pm at the Gordon Head Recreation Centre, in Victoria.
Learn more about the event and register.
Deadline: August 30
Open to: Patient partners on Vancouver Island

Pharmacy Resident Project, Improvements to Allergy Information in Electronic Medical Records
There are many types of adverse reactions that can result from medications, but distinguishing between an allergy, an intolerance, or a side effect plays an important role in medication decision making when a patient is in the hospital. Having more details about a reaction in a patient’s electronic medical record can help determine the most appropriate treatment options for patients.
Patient partners will be invited to contribute to a team working to improve allergy documentation by helping to come up with a standard set of questions that clinicians will ask patients in order to effectively gather information needed to make safe decisions about medication.
Respond directly to Alanna Janz at alanna.janz@viha.ca.
Deadline: September 6
Open to: Patient partners within the Island Health region

Consultation, Patient Experiences with Referrals to Specialists
Have you ever been referred to a specialist? The College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC would like to invite patient partners to participate in a consultation focusing on the patient experience of care coordination when referred to a specialist by a family doctor.  The results of this survey will inform the revision of the organization’s guideline.
Learn more about the opportunity and register.
Deadline: Sept 15
Open to: Patient partners across the province

Patient Experience Questionnaire: Automated Appointment Reminders, BC Children’s and BC Women’s Hospitals
BC Children’s and BC Women’s Hospitals are piloting a new service for patients and families. The project is to automate appointment reminders for patients in the Children’s Hospital Dental Clinic as well as the Women’s Health Centre Chronic Pelvic Pain Clinic. Patients in these two clinics will have the option to choose between a phone call or text message reminding them of their upcoming appointment. Patients will be presented with this option while scheduling their appointment date and time. If the pilot is successful, this service will be rolled out across the BC Children’s and BC Women’s Hospital campus.

Your feedback and suggestions help us to improve our services, so we would appreciate if you could respond to the following questions:

  1. Would an appointment reminder phone call or text message sent to your phone be helpful to you? Why/why not?
  2. When would be the best time for you to receive the reminder (how many days before your appointment and time of day)? Why?
  3. If English is not your first language, would it be helpful for you to still receive a reminder in English?

Send your answers via email or contact Patient Experience at 1-844-874-3267 for more information.
Deadline: September 15
Open to: Patient partners across the province
