Quality Café – The Patient Voice as Co-Leader

Patient and health care partner collaboration results in improved patient safety, better health outcomes, reduced health care costs, and better care experiences for patients and care providers. But how do you ensure that the patient is an equal partner in this work?

Join us to learn from people involved with PVN, who will share the patient and health care partner perspectives. Jason, a patient partner, and Patty, a health care partner, will talk about their expectations for collaborating, and discuss the experiences and lessons they have learned working together on the Patient and Family Advisory Committee of the Tertiary Eating Disorders Program. Judy and Rick who collaborate on Interior Health’s Clinical Ethics Committee will also present.

By the end of this session, you will develop an in-depth understanding of what collaboration between patients and health care partners looks like, and demonstrate how to work together to have a real impact on the health care system.

Presenters:

Karen Estrin, Engagement Leader, Patient Voices Network
Shannon Sahota, Project Coordinator, Patient Voices Network
Patty Yoon, Program Manager, Mental Health and Urban Health Department, Providence Health Care
Jason MacLeod, Patient Partner
Judy Nichol, Regional Practice Leader, Professional Practice Office, Interior Health Authority
Rick Tomson, Patient Partner

The Patient Voices Network has connected me to a community with the same drive to bring person- and family-centred care to the forefront. I am grateful for all opportunities I have been a part of thanks to PVN, which positively impacts patients like my sister and their caregivers. No matter how small, all patient engagement will help shape the future of health care and that I can stand behind
