Health System 101: Understanding How Care is Organized in BC – PVN Learning Series

The PVN Learning Series is created for Patient Voices Network members. The PVN Learning Series is created for Patient Voices Network members and shaped by members’ input from recent focus groups and surveys. The goal of the sessions is to support the growth of PVN patient partners by reducing barriers, strengthening capabilities, and creating more opportunities to connect, learn and contribute to meaningful change in BC’s health care system with increased skills and confidence.

Description
This session is designed to give patient partners a clear, accessible introduction to how the health care system in BC is structured. We will explore the basics of system organization and current challenges. The goal is to provide a strong foundation, so patient partners feel more confident navigating opportunities and contributing to meaningful improvements in care.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the basic structure of the BC health care system
  • Identify some of the current challenges and priorities shaping health care in BC.
