Background

What is a traumatic injury? Traumatic injury refers to sudden, severe physical injuries which require immediate medical attention to prevent loss of life or limb. The impact of traumatic injuries often extends beyond physical injuries. Falls and motor vehicle-related injuries are the main causes of injury-related hospitalization in British Columbia. The new Trauma Program will open in mid-August. This project is collaboration between multiple Island Health programs and departments (e.g. surgical services, intensive care, Division of Family Practice) and aligns with the recommendations and standards of Accreditation Canada.
