Care providers at Royal Inland Hospital would like your help to improve the process for elective surgeries from the time that the decision is made by the patient and surgeon through to when surgery is confirmed on the 2 day slate (two days prior to surgery). Please read on if you would like to bring your experience to this improvement group to share how you think the process might be improved, what challenges you experienced and what worked well.

Aim

To improve the process for elective surgeries from the time that the decision is made by the patient and surgeon through to when surgery is confirmed on the 2 day slate (two days prior to surgery).

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement (www.iap2.org). The promise to you is that the health care partner will work with you to ensure that your ideas and concerns are reflected in recommendations and provide feedback on how your input affected the decision.

Eligibility

Recent experience with the elective surgery process either for self or a close (spouse/child) family member. Comfortable talking in front of a group of health care professionals.

Logistics

  • Vacancies: 2
  • Date: March 6-10
  • Format: In-person workshop. We would work with the patient partner's schedule and would gladly have them for as much/as little as they wished to participate. At minimum, a 4 hour block would be required.

Reimbursement

Pre-approved expenses will be reimbursed.

Background

The process of booking the surgery date is moving from the surgeon's office to the Booking Office at the hospital. Staff from the booking office, a surgeon, and workshop staff will be involved to determine the best process for moving forward.
