Background

Physician Quality Improvement (PQI), a partnership between FH and Doctors of BC/Specialist Services Committee, is an initiative to engage physicians and build capacity in the areas of quality improvement, leadership, project and change management. The intention of the initiative is to build understanding, knowledge and access to quality improvement resources within the FH physician group. Involving patients in the monthly learning sessions and design of individual physician-led projects will help to ensure that the work moving forward is meaningful, appropriate and VIA (valid, important and applicable) to those that access services and receive treatment/support within the FH Health System. Description of Opportunity: Patient partners are asked to attend afternoon breakout sessions from 2:30pm-4pm, where project leads present their projects at various stages of the project cycle. Patient partners are asked to provide feedback to project presenters during these breakout sessions alongside other Cohort 5 participants in order to support the project lead in considering the patient perspective at every part of their project planning. Patient partners are welcome to attend the entire day of PQI Certificate trainings (8am-4pm), or portions of the day prior to the breakout sessions, and will be considered full members of the Cohort if interested; however, this is not a requirement for involvement due to the high level of commitment this requires. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments provided if attending earlier than breakout sessions. Parking reimbursement available; mileage reimbursement available if travelling 50km or more one way. Patient partners also welcome to attend other training opportunities available within PQI.

I have learned so much about innovation and capacity building by being part of PVN. I signed up to build my leadership skills, however, I experience benefits for myself, my community and Indigenous peoples throughout the province. I understand more about the complexities and opportunities required to improve health care.
