Open to Vancouver Island Region, Patient partners in the Island Health region

Last updated

The Medical Planning and Credentials Committee understands that patients are the reason physicians come to work each day and is committed to ensuring that high quality physician services are available across the Island Health region. It’s no surprise that the Committee wants to include patient partners in their discussions!

Open to: Patient partners in the Island Health region

Lead Organization or Department

Medical Affairs, Island Health

Aim

This Committee looks at physician recruitment for all Island Health programs, geographies, services and specialties, and is responsible to ensure that physicians with the appropriate training are available as services expand, new treatments become available, and physicians retire or move on. This group also determines the skills and training a physician requires to safely provide care. Patient partners will be invited to contribute to Committee discussions by drawing upon their expertise developed through lived experiences accessing health services as a patient or family member. The patient partners’ contributions will assist the Committee to explore acceptable standards for physician services from the perspective of patients and families. Like the other non-physician members of the Committee, the patient partners will be “non-voting members” but will be in a unique position to significantly influence and inform the positions of “voting members” by sharing their expectations, ideas, concerns and experiences related to the decisions at hand.
