The Guidelines and Protocols Advisory Committee is a joint committee of the Ministry of Health and Doctors of BC. Help us revise and update our Osteoporosis Guideline for primary care providers in the province.

Aim

We're looking for one or two patients to participate in our guideline development process. The guideline working group is composed of family physicians, specialists and pharmacists and supported by a project lead from the Ministry of Health. The guideline is focused on diagnosis and management of osteoporosis in primary care. The purpose of involving patients in guideline development is to gain a better understanding of patient experience, values and preferences for osteoporosis care.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of consult on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will listen to and acknowledge your ideas and concerns, and provide feedback on how your input affected the decision.

Eligibility

  • Open to patients and caregivers across the province, preference will be given to those impacted by osteoporosis.
  • Willing to review and discuss practitioner-facing materials (medical literature, draft clinical guidelines).
  • Comfortable participating in lively debates.

Logistics

Vacancies: 2 Location, date, time and frequency:
  • 2-3 working group meetings over the next 3-4 months (up to 3 hours each, held in the evenings)
  • Meetings are held in Vancouver with opportunity to participate via teleconference
  • Next working group meeting has been scheduled for October 17th, 5:30 to 8:30 pm.
  • Following with meeting dates TBD.
Anticipated time commitment is up to 18 hours for participating in working group meetings as well as additional time to prepare for meetings or as follow-up after meetings.
  • 1-3 working group meetings (up to 3 hours each) will be held in Vancouver and/or via teleconference over the next 6 months.
  • Up to 3 hours of preparation (e.g. reviewing documents, reviewing background material, responding to emails, discussions with project lead) per meeting may be required.

Reimbursement

Pre-approved expenses will be covered as per policy.

Background

  • This guideline will update the 2011 GPAC Osteoporosis Guideline
  • Two working group meetings have already occurred. The guideline is anticipated to be completed and published by Spring 2020.
  • GPAC publishes clinical practice guidelines for primary care providers, freely available online at www.BCGuidelines.ca
