Aim

The Surgical Quality Action Network (SQAN) is dedicated to helping provide better outcomes for the 200,000 British Columbians who undergo surgery each year. If you or a loved one have had surgery in BC, we invite you to contribute your experience and knowledge as a participant in this interactive and action-oriented event. At SQAN Day, you can expect to:

• hear from leading experts and frontline surgical teams on exciting improvements to patient care;
• learn about how different measurement strategies can support improvements in surgical care; and
• talk about ways to align and focus current improvement efforts as well as how we can spread innovative ideas.

As an event participant, patient partners should be prepared to learn about surgical care in BC and to share their own experiences and ideas for improvement.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of consult on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will listen to and acknowledge your ideas and concerns, and provide feedback on how your input affected the decision.

Eligibility

• Experience in last five years as a surgical patient, or as the primary support of a surgical patient
• Comfort interacting in large group settings (150 people)
• Willingness to share personal experiences with surgical care in BC
• Geographic diversity will be considered when selecting our patient partners

Logistics

Vacancies: 12 Time, Date, Location: The conference will take place on February 8, 2019 from 830 to 1630 in Vancouver. Commitment: One-time event

Reimbursement

All expenses related to travel, meals and accommodation will be covered.

Background

This event is primarily intended to share experiences, knowledge and build momentum for improvement in surgical care; it is not intended to create policies or set targets/priorities for surgical care in the province. Registration will be capped at 150 and will include clinical and administrative staff (ranging from point of care to senior leadership) from surgical services in all health authorities. Patient partners can review previous SQAN-supported initiatives on the BCPSQC website, though this is not required.
