Are you a patient who has undergone or is booked for planned surgery at Penticton Regional Hospital? We need volunteers to attend a one-hour in-person session to test drive our website and evaluate our surgical school content. Help us create relevant user-friendly ways to ensure our patients are ready for surgery.

Aim

Having surgery booked is stressful. Our goal is to equip our surgical patients with the tools to better prepare themselves both mentally and physically. We are currently trialing an in-person class, a website and PDF passport document for goal setting and would like to work with patient partners to evaluate these tools and make suggestions to us to improve our content and use of these tools to ensure they are accessible, relevant and easy to use.

This opportunity is at the level of consult on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will listen to and acknowledge your ideas and concerns, and provide feedback on how your input affected the decision.

Eligibility

  • Experience as a surgical patient
  • Comfort sharing your story if it provides context
  • South Okanagan resident ideally

Logistics

Vacancies: 2 Location, date, time and frequency:
  • One meeting in October at a time that suits the patient partner
  • This meeting is a one-hour commitment
  • The meeting will be held in-person in Penticton or Summerland with the team
Commitment: One time

Reimbursement

Parking and meals will be covered as per Interior Health policy.

Background

This project has come about as part of our work with the Surgical Patient Optimization Collaborative. The focus is on both acute care and transitions of care. We are working with 15 other sites across BC to develop local site specific ways to help our patients prepare both mentally and physically for their planned surgery, Our team has nurses, Surgeons, GP’S, dieticians, Internal medical Specialist’s and data analysts as well as strong project manager support.
