Participant, Mental Health and Substance Use Rapid Process Improvement Workshop

Have you been through the experience of being discharged from a mental health & substance use unit at Kelowna General Hospital, and then connected with an adult community support services clinician? Interior Health is looking for two patient partners who can give ideas, thoughts and constructive criticism about the experience.

Aim

Standardize the referral process and improve the patients' experience when accessing adult community support services clinicians. Having a patient partner would provide valuable insight of the process and experience. The patient partner will be asked to participate in the week-long event and help to brainstorm improvement ideas.

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

• Comfort sharing personal experience and working in large groups
• Experience working with community clinicians
• Experience with mental health & substance use unit and discharge from Kelowna General Hospital (KGH)

Logistics

• Vacancies: 1 - 2
• Location: In-person at the Kelowna Community Health Services Centre or KGH
• Date: May 13-17
• Time and frequency: 8 am - 4:30 pm, May 17. Should be complete by 12:00pm
• There will also be a 30, 60 and 90 day follow up meetings

Reimbursement

Lunch and parking expenses will be covered as per Interior Health’s policy.

Background

The boundaries of this workshop are the flow of mental health substance use (MHSU) patients from Kelowna General Hospital Inpatient MHSU unit to connection with adult community support services clinicians. The workshop will include about 15 people that are all involved in the process in different ways, and there will be three follow-up meetings to discuss progress of improvement initiatives. The patient partner would be invited to these 30, 60, and 90 day follow up meetings. This work is related to community care with the goal of improving patient experience.
