The IH Ethics Council welcomes two patient partners to join us in championing an ethics culture across the health authority. The Council develops ethics resources and reviews ethics issues in support of our patients and their families, employees, physicians, and volunteers.

Aim

The Ethics Council focuses on ethics across IH through: 1) Integrating an ethics approach in the delivery of IH services. 2) Providing oversight for the ethics framework. 3) Communicating ethics stories and education opportunities. Patient partner perspectives and input to ethics activities is important in adding the voice of our patients and families to the ethics culture at IH.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the research partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

• Interest in any domain of ethics: business ethics, clinical ethics, health technology ethics, project ethics or research ethics.
• Participation in committee work through monthly teleconference/WebEx meetings and yearly in person education events.
• Comfortable participating in a large group; the current Council is 16 members.

Logistics

• Vacancies: 2
• The Ethics Council meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday from 08:00-09:00 am
• Meetings are held at the Community Health and Services Centre in Kelowna, 505 Doyle Avenue and by teleconference/WebEx for members across the region
• Meeting invites with documents are sent via Outlook email in advance of each meeting
• Membership appointments are usually for two years

Reimbursement

Expenses such as mileage, meals and accommodation will be covered per IH policy. The expenses need to be pre-approved with the health care partner.

Background

The Council had two previous PVN members who have both now resigned after two years of service. The Council would like to have a PVN member who has Aboriginal ancestry and will bring that perspective and voice to the group. The Council is made up of representatives from various departments and services across IH. The membership and Council areas of responsibility are listed in the attached Terms of Reference. The Ethics in Interior Health framework is also attached for reference.
