Participant, Abbotsford Regional Hospital Hip & Knee Replacement Focus Group

Recently, the Government of British Columbia announced a funding increase for hip & knee surgeries across the province. In Fraser Health, that translates to a 23% increase in the region. In preparation for this expansion of services, Abbotsford Regional Hospital is seeking patient input into their current services and opportunities for enhancement to improve the patient experience.

Aim

• Ensure patient advisor concerns and aspirations are considered in the development of process, practice and patient education for hip & knee surgery at Abbotsford Regional Hospital
• Have patients provide feedback that enhances the patients’ experience
• Health care partners hope to gain a better understanding of the patients’ experience through the surgical journey

Eligibility

This invitation is being extended to volunteers in the Fraser Area who have experienced hip or knee surgery services at Abbotsford Regional Hospital

• Date/Time: one two-hour focus group at the end of June, date/time to be determined with the patient partners
• Location: Abbotsford Regional Hospital

Reimbursement

Preapproved expenses related to travel to in person meetings will be reimbursed according to the Fraser Health Travel policy (including mileage, parking, tolls and/or public transit).

Background

What: The Abbotsford hip/knee replacement service are expanding and evaluating their current services to implement necessary improvements prior to the expansion. The evaluation is focused on patient education, communication, and key points of transition (such as discharge, rehabilitation, and follow-up). Who is involved: Key stakeholders include orthopedic surgeons, rehabilitation (Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist), registered nurses, clinical nurse educators, and the unit manager.
