The BC Patient Safety & Quality Council (BCPSQC) is developing a quality care standard for stroke care in BC and is looking to engage patient partners with lived experience to help make recommendations, be involved in decision making and collaborate on this impactful work.

Aim

BCPSQC is leading the development of a stroke quality care standard to improve care for all stroke patients in BC. We are aiming to do this by creating a provincially agreed upon statement on the care patients should be offered by health professionals and health services. This will be used to focus improvement efforts within the health system for those experiencing a stroke. We are looking for 2-3 people, whether that be as a carer or a person with a lived experience of stroke, to help collaborate in the development of this quality care standard. The patient partners will be members of the Standards Development Committee attending virtual meetings and reviewing committee documents in preparation of meetings.

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

Open to patient partners across the province who: • Have lived experience of a stroke themselves, or as a caregiver or family member for someone else • Are comfortable engaging with a group over a virtual platform (e.g. zoom) • Are comfortable sharing their story Please note the placement process for this opportunity will include an informal interview. Logistics

• Number of vacancies: 2-3 • Date and Time: Monthly meetings (2-4hrs in duration) starting September 2020 - exact date to be determined • Location: Online meetings via Zoom • Commitment: 12 months

Reimbursement

Pre-approved travel expenses to attend meetings will be reimbursed by BCPSQC (if in-person meetings become an option in the future).

Background

The BC Patient Safety and Quality Council (the Council) regularly works with and brings together stakeholders throughout the province and across the spectrum of care to discuss issues and advance quality. It is leading the development of stroke clinical care standards as part of the overarching clinical policy framework. The Council will work closely with the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) to support the project. Members of the committee will include patient partners, clinicians, researchers and leaders from each Health Authority.
