Aim

The Public Awareness and Education Advisory Committee will provide expert input, guidance and support to our public awareness and education projects. These projects relate to Advance Care Planning, Palliative Care and Compassionate Communities. We are seeking members of the committee to provide a diverse range of perspectives and experiences of those affected by serious illness, frailty or chronic medical conditions as a patient, family member or caregiver.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

• Experience of being affected by serious illness, frailty or chronic medical conditions, as patient, family member, caregiver, or another role.
• English fluency (speaking, reading and writing)
• Experience with project/committee proceedings is an asset

Logistics

Vacancies: 3 The Advisory Committee will meet via teleconference/web link four times per year for approximately 2 hours. You would be provided with meeting materials by email to review in advance of the meeting. Between meetings you may receive update emails and requests for your input on specific time-sensitive activities. The expected commitment for this committee is through to September 2020.

Reimbursement

The health care partner does not anticipate any costs as meetings will be held by teleconference or web link. If there would be a cost associated for you to participate by phone/web please let the health care partner know.

Background

We are reviewing our Advisory Committee membership and would like to include additional patient perspectives in the work of the Public Awareness and Education Advisory Committee. Other members of the committee will include:

• people with strong knowledge and experience in the delivery of relevant public awareness and education activities, including representatives from community-based organisations and health-care professionals.
• people able to bring the perspective and needs of specific public groups (e.g. representation from diverse cultural groups).
• BCCPC staff from areas that have accountability within the public awareness and education activities, and related activities.
