Creating a welcoming environment, where patients and families feel valued and good about the care they receive, is a critical part of new employees’ orientation. Providence Health Care is looking for two patient partners to assist in revising their orientation, specifically in the hospital setting, that acknowledges the important role patients and families play in providing good quality health care.

Providence Health Care – Professional Practice

Aim

Integrate the electronic health record, Cerner, into new staff orientation to ensure an innovative, interdisciplinary experience, focused on what matters to patients and families. Patient and family partners will help shape the content of orientation. There may be opportunities to participate in simulation-based exercises once the content is complete.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

If you have a strong interest in this work but have not yet completed a PVN orientation and volunteer agreement, are unsure if your experience is a good fit or feel another format of engagement would work better with your availability, please contact the engagement leader directly.

Logistics

  • Location: Providence Health Care Head Office, Vancouver and via teleconference

Reimbursement

Expenses related to travel to in-person meetings will be reimbursed (including mileage and/or public transit) per Providence Health Care Policy.

Background

The General Orientation working group was formed to revamp the orientation process at Providence Health Care to include electronic health records and to use an innovative, interdisciplinary approach. The group currently consists of Practice Consultants, Nurse Educators, Clinical Informatic Specialists, the Clinical Systems Transformation Learning Team, and master’s degree student.
