Member, Patient Flow Steering Committee

Island Health is seeking a patient partner to participate in an executive-level Patient Flow Steering Committee. The focus of the committee is to develop and inform regional patient flow initiatives and improvement work in the areas of acute care, community care, long-term care, primary care, mental health and substance use.

Aim

Patient volumes are increasing dramatically and our systems are adapting to this rise in demand. Island health has created a Patient Flow Steering Committee to oversee and support regional and local patient flow strategy initiatives. We are asking patient partners to participate in monthly meetings where they will listen, ask questions, and share experiences to help guide decision makers.

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

• Experience as a patient in part of the health system

Please note: This opportunity is not open to patient partners who are currently employed by Island Health. The placement process for this opportunity may include an informal interview between the volunteer and the health care partner. Applicants must have previously attended a PVN orientation session and completed the Volunteer Agreement. Logistics

Vacancies: 2 Date, Time, Location: Every second Thursday from 1000 - 1130 (may reduce to monthly in the future) Location: Victoria with the possibility of attending meetings via Skype Commitment: One week to six months

Reimbursement

Pre-approved transportation and parking costs to attend meetings will be reimbursed by Island Health.

Background

There is a rising demand for services, with historically high patient volumes and utilization rates. As such, Island Health has created a Patient Flow Steering Committee made up of executive partners, managers, directors, medical directors, program stakeholders, and external stakeholders (as needed) to inform regional patient flow strategies. By improving flow and access, and ensuring that the full system best meets the care needs of our patients, we will improve patient outcomes and reduce morbidity and mortality. This will have a positive impact on quality for not only patients, clients, and residents, but also on staff and physicians.
