Are you interested in enhancing patient and family engagement in the kidney care community? Your perspective will help the BC Renal Agency develop a framework to guide patient engagement in the agency’s committees and key activities.

Aim

The goal is to develop a patient and family engagement framework for the BC Renal Agency with patient and kidney care partners by Spring 2019. Voices of those impacted by kidney disease are crucial to the development of this framework. Patient partners will work together with kidney care partners by sharing their perspectives on what matters in getting involved in the agency’s provincial committees and key activities.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate (at a local community or program level) on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will look to you for advice in decision making, developing alternatives, and solutions and include your recommendations into the decision as much as possible.

Eligibility

  • Patients or family members with lived experience of chronic kidney disease
  • Experience working and sharing perspectives with diverse groups of people
  • A strong interest in partnering and working together with health care professionals to advance patient involvement and quality improvement in kidney care.
We are hoping to recruit diverse voices and welcome patient partners of various ages, genders, kidney disease experiences, and cultural backgrounds from across the province

Logistics

Vacancies: 4 Commitment: Meetings will be once a month for 60 minutes via webinar or teleconference during business hours. Those residing in Metro Vancouver may choose to attend meetings in-person in Vancouver. The first meeting will be held in January 2019. Term membership for group members will be for six months with possible extension for up to one more year

Reimbursement

No expenses anticipated. Expenses for parking or ground transportation will be reimbursed for those eligible for in person meetings.

Background

The BC Renal Agency is seeking kidney patients and family members to participate in the Patient & Family Engagement Framework Working Group that will guide patient engagement in the agency’s provincial committees and key activities. Members of the Working Group will include patient partners, health care partners from Provincial Health Services Authority and regional health authorities who sit on BC Renal Agency’s provincial committees, as well as agency staff. The patient and family partners will help make decisions pertaining to the development of the patient and family engagement framework.
