Aim

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) makes recommendations on matters that impact the patient experience in the ICU at Royal Inland Hospital (RIH). The aim is that the experience of patients and families will improve. Your role will be to bring your experiences to the council, influencing recommendations of changes and initiatives happening within RIH ICU.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the research partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

  • Patient partners in the Interior Health West region who have accessed Royal Inland Hospital and have an interest in Intensive Care and Step Down.
  • Diverse perspectives reflecting different ages, gender, geographic locations, ethnicities and experiences will be an asset to this council.

If you have a strong interest in this work but have not yet completed a PVN orientation and Volunteer Agreement, are unsure if your experience is a good fit or feel another format of engagement would work better with your availability, please contact the engagement leader directly.

Logistics

Vacancies: 7

Format: Meetings will be held every 2 months starting with an in-person meeting in Kamloops. Format and location of subsequent meetings will be decided with the confirmed council participants. There is potential for a rotating meeting host location schedule while also offering tele/video conferencing to accommodate in-person meetings for each member from time to time.

Commitment:  The term will be for 1 year, with option to extend.

Reimbursement

Travel and incidental expenses will be covered as per IH policy

Background

As we bring patient- and family-centred care to the forefront, we are committed to the the patient’s voice being a partner in all aspects of health care. This committee will be the first of its kind within RIH and will serve as a potential model for other similar committees within the hospital. See the Terms of Reference for this RIH ICU PFAC for more information.
