Aim

The Nursing Education Planning Council (NEPC) works to establish and oversee priority policy agendas in nursing education with corresponding working groups. Patient partners are invited to join the Ministry of Health’s Nursing Education Planning Council to provide feedback and recommendations on education priorities identified in the Nursing Policy Secretariat, to ensure that nursing care in BC meets the current and emerging needs of patient, caregivers and diverse communities. At monthly meetings, patient partners will be asked to speak to their experiences of nursing care and will be encouraged to actively participate in meetings and development of recommendations and plans.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate (at a local community or program level) on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will look to you for advice in decision making, developing alternatives, and solutions and include your recommendations into the decision as much as possible.

Eligibility

• Must be a resident of BC
• Ideally is a system level, innovative, future thinker
• Experience (as patient or family member) with care delivered by nursing and able to articulate what should be delivered by nursing / health professions in the future to support better care and outcomes
• Able to consider other perspectives, curious and respectful

Please note: The placement process for this opportunity may include an informal interview between the volunteer and the health care partner. Applicants must have previously attended a PVN orientation session and completed the Volunteer Agreement. Logistics

Vacancies: 2 Date |Time | Location: Monthly meetings - in-person as well as telephone or video link options will be available. In-person location will be in Vancouver area (e.g. downtown or Richmond). Meetings will be approx. 2 - 3 hours in length and there may be a few longer meetings. Commitment:  Patient partners are asked to join the committee for a minimum of one year, with the option of extending as mutually agreed to by committee chair and patient partner.

Reimbursement

Mileage/parking costs to attend in-person meetings in Vancouver will be reimbursed for those who are local to the Vancouver area.  Patient partners outside of the Vancouver-area will be asked to participate via teleconference or video conference (no expenses expected).  Please note, we hope to support 1-2 face-to-face meetings each year for all committee members, and pre-approved expenses would be reimbursed.

Background

Nursing Education Planning Council (NEPC) works to establish and oversee priority policy agendas in nursing education with corresponding working groups. The Council will provide a provincially-focused forum for collaboration and consultation on priority issues and considerations related to nursing education including strategic advice and direction in addressing recommendations in the Nursing Policy Secretariat report (January, 2018). The Nursing Education Planning Council is accountable to make recommendations to the Planning Board for Health and Medical Education (PBHME) comprised of Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training and Ministry of Health. The committee is ongoing, and stakeholders will be apprised of updates through the meetings and ad hoc via email, telephone call etc.
