The Moving, Eating, & Living Well with Dementia study is inviting patient partners to join the steering committee to help develop, pilot test and distribute resources on living well with dementia.

Lead Organization/Department

University of Northern British Columbia, School of Nursing

Aim

To oversee all aspects of the Moving, Eating and Living Well with Dementia study, including design, resource adaptation, evaluation, and interpretation of results. Patient Partners will share their expertise and participate in planning and decisions for the project.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

• PVN patient partners who are living with dementia or supporting those with dementia
• Living in rural or northern BC

 

  • This opportunity is not open to patient partners who are currently employed by Northern Health
  • The placement process for this opportunity may include an informal interview between the volunteer and the health care partner.

Applicants must have previously attended a PVN orientation session and completed the Volunteer Agreement. If you have not attended an orientation session but you are interested in this opportunity, please contactcalmost@bcpsqc.ca directly to see if accommodations may be possible.

Logistics

• Number of vacancies: 2-4
• Location, Date, Time and Frequency:

  • Meetings will be held monthly between March 2021 and November 2022
  • At this time, all meetings will take place via Zoom
  • Please make yourself available for March 1st 1pm for a Meet and Greet
  • Final decisions on how and when to meet will be decided by the team
  • The Steering committee will be looking all aspects of the project which include design, resource adaptation, evaluation, and interpretation of results and taking part in discussion and decision making.

Background

This study is an extension of the DICE study (https://dementiaexercise.com). The DICE project’s goal is to support the design, content and delivery of exercise programs so that they meet the needs and preferences of persons living with dementia and their care partners.

The Moving, Eating & Living Well with Dementia Study will seek to develop, pilot test, distribute and evaluate resources to improve knowledge and attitudes regarding physical activity, healthy diet and nutrition risk and increase uptake of physical activity and healthy diet.

15-20 Members of the Committee will include:
• Persons living with dementia
• Care partners
• People who provide programs/services to support well-being
• Health care providers (i.e. nutritionist, physiotherapist, nurses, nurse researcher)
