The Merritt Local Health Planning Committee is looking for 1-2 patient partners to join local physicians, First Nations, Interior Health and community health representatives in identifying specific health care priorities in the community.

Lead Organization/Department

Rural & Remote Division of Family Practice – Merritt Chapter

Aim

Patient partners will join other health stakeholders on Merritt’s Local Health Planning Team and working groups to identify community priorities in the development of an integrated approach to health services in the Merritt area.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will involve patients in planning and design phases to ensure ideas or concerns are considered and reflected in alternatives and recommendations.

Eligibility

• Open to patient partners from the Merritt area
• Patients and family caregivers with experience accessing health services in the Merritt local health area, particularly for complex care, chronic conditions, mental health, substance use disorder, pregnancy, geriatrics, paediatrics
• We are seeking people who represent diverse perspectives, which may include but are not limited to geography/neighbourhood, culture, ethnic or national origin, marital status, age, gender/gender identity, sexual orientation, income variety, education, work experience, genetic characteristics, family status, disability, and/or experiences with health challenges or health care. The composition of the committee will be guided by the desire to learn and to share perspectives and experiences from across a diverse population and broad demographic balance.

– The placement process for this opportunity may include an informal interview between the volunteer and the health care partner.
– Applicants must have previously attended a PVN orientation session and completed the Volunteer Agreement. If you have not attended an orientation session but you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Carol Stathers directly to see if accommodations may be possible.

• Date/Time: Meetings will occur monthly
• Location: Online via a videoconferencing platform
• Commitment: Up to 6 months

There are no anticipated costs associated with this opportunity.

Background

The Merritt Local Health Planning Team includes representatives from local and regional health sectors, including Rural and Remote Division of Family Practice, Interior Health, First Nations, and other. This initiative is focused on local health care priorities and how they integrate with existing health services and new opportunities.
