Fraser Health is looking for energetic, community-minded patients and families who can contribute their voice to the improvement of hospital services in Langley. They are seeking six patient partners to help co-design their patient advisory council so that what matters to patients is at the forefront of work happening at Langley Memorial Hospital.

Aim

The aim of this opportunity is to co-design an ongoing opportunity for patients and families to lend their experience to improving the quality of health care services at Langley Memorial Hospital. Patient partners will work alongside the health care team to develop a patient advisory council that is responsive to the needs of the community and creates an ongoing opportunity for input.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

  • Can speak to a lived experience;
  • Excited to share their story in front of healthcare providers and leaders; and
  • Willing to contribute their knowledge to a system-wide strategy.
Patients should have previously attended a PVN orientation session.  If you have not attended an orientation but are interested please contact Jami Brown directly to see if accommodations may be possible.

Logistics

Vacancies: Six Date, Time, Location: to be determined with patient partners. Langley Memorial Hospital. Commitment: Once a month for 2-3 hours, with ad hoc reading and emails between meetings.

Reimbursement

Pre-approved expenses related to travel to in-person meetings will be reimbursed according to the Fraser Health Travel policy (including mileage, parking and public transit).

Background

Background: Site Level Engagement: There is a growing demand for patient and family involvement in the design, evaluation and delivery of care at the local level.  There is a desire at local Fraser Health Hospitals to develop meaningful partnerships with patients and families on key committees and in important service planning initiatives. Description of Opportunity: Patient Advisory Council (PAC): Regular meetings that promote the development of meaningful partnerships between patient and family advisors and key hospital staff.  Opportunities include advancing a person- and family-centered approach to health and improving the patient experience. Also, important issues facing staff, patients and families in that hospital or community are examined. Staff and leaders can bring issues and items to the council to ensure a patient and family perspective is considered (the level of engagement will vary, depending on the goal and purpose of each issue/item). Goals: Involve: To work with patient and family advisors and reflect on their perspective throughout the process. We will work with patients and families and consider their feedback in the decisions. Objectives:
  • Advance person- and family-centered approach
  • Improve the patient experience
  • Improve quality and patient safety
  • Strengthen site operations
