The Kootenay Boundary region of Interior Health is embarking on the next phase of primary care transformation – implementation – and invites you to be part of this exciting journey as a member of the steering committee responsible for the establishment and ongoing operation of the Primary Care Network.

Aim

The Primary Care Network will enable the attachment of patients to primary care providers in our region and work to establish teams within physician offices to better serve the primary care needs of the community. The committee will implement and oversee the operation of the primary care network service plan. The role of the patient partner will be an active member of the committee along with Interior Health managers, Divisions of Family Practice staff, physicians, a First Nations representative, and primary care staff representation.

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

• The successful candidate will have a strong community focus and be comfortable with email. Some experience with budgets, managing staff, strategic thinking and openness to a learning environment is an asset.
• This opportunity is not open to those currently employed by Interior Health.
• We are looking for a 2-year commitment.

Logistics

• Vacancies: 2
• Location, date, time and frequency: Meetings will be held once per month in Castlegar for approximately 2.5 hours in the evening. There will be requirements to review documents in-between meetings and this will be done through email. The work will begin in May with an exact date to be determined.

Reimbursement

Mileage and out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed. If the meetings fall over a meal period, meals will be provided. Refreshments will be provided. Reimbusement will take approximately 4-6 weeks.

Background

The Ministry of Health, the Doctors of BC and the health authorities are working to improve how primary and community health care is provided. The steering committee will be comprised of Interior Health managers, Divisions of Family Practice staff, physicians, a First Nations representative, and primary care staff representation. It will implement and oversee the operation of the primary care network service plan. A terms of reference and other relevant documents will be circulated to the successful candidates. Primary and community care include most basic health care services that are provided by family doctors and nurses in a doctor’s office or in your home. They might also include services from other health professionals such as support from a counselor, advice from a dietitian, or pre-natal care from a midwife.
