Aim

Participants of the Patient Advisory Committee will provide guidance to health care partners on meeting the needs of patients and families as we create an integrated system of care in Kootenay Boundary. Your role will be to bring your experiences to the Committee, and provide recommendations to initiatives happening within the region.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will involve patients in planning and design phases to ensure ideas or concerns are considered and reflected in alternatives and recommendations.

Eligibility

• Able to attend most meetings at a central location, most likely Castlegar. Video or phone meetings may be convened on occasion or in inclement weather. • Must have access to email. • Comfortable working with a group and willing to learn from and share your experiences with others. Diverse perspectives reflecting different ages, gender, geographic locations, ethnicity and experiences will be considered an asset to this committee.

Logistics

Number of vacancies: 7 Location, Date, Time and Frequency: Meetings will be held 4-5 times per year for 2-3 hours each at a central location, most likely Castlegar. Members may also be invited to participate in projects between meetings. Commitment: One-year term with option to renew  

Reimbursement

Mileage and out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed. Refreshments will be provided during the meetings.

Background

Interior Health is working together with the Divisions of Family Practice through the Collaborative Services Committee (CSC) to find ways to support the creation of an integrated system of care at the local level. The CSC is a collaborative committee with membership including patient partners, Interior Health Authority and local physicians. The Committee works together to address issues in the health care system. The Kootenay Boundary Patient Advisory Committee will provide a forum for the patient voice to advise the CSC on primary care quality improvement and system change at the local and regional (Kootenay Boundary) level.
