Aim

The aim of information governance is to ensure data and information are high quality and available to meet needs. The goal of the Information Governance (IG) Council is to oversee information management at Island Health. A Patient Partner can offer insight on how information governance processes and IG Council decisions might impact patients.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will involve patients in planning and design phases to ensure ideas or concerns are considered and reflected in alternatives and recommendations.

Eligibility

  • Able to share opinions in a respectful manner in a large group setting
  • Preference will be given to a Patient Partner with experience or understanding of data/information management in the health care system.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn

Logistics

Vacancies: 1 Location, date, time and frequency:
  • In-person/teleconference meetings are scheduled for the first Monday of each month. If the first Monday is a statutory holiday, the meeting will be the second Monday.
  • Usually do not meet in December, July and August
Commitment: Over a year

Reimbursement

When incurred, pre-approved mileage and parking will be reimbursed to the nearest videoconferencing location (as applicable) and/or the meeting location (if in your city).

Background

The Information Governance Council began in February, 2018. Members of the Council include Managers, Directors and Executive Directors of Island Health and 2 PVN Patient Partners. The Patient Partners will be asked to review meeting documents and gain a level of understanding of information governance issues at Island Health; attend and participate in approximately 9 meetings a year, one and a half hours each, by video conference or in person at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria; and offer a patient perspective on information management and information governance issues addressed by the IG Council.
