If you are a thoughtful communicator who is willing to use your experience to contribute to high-level, decision-focused discussions on quality improvement, this is for you! Patient partners are needed to join senior leaders as members of Island Health’s Medical Quality Committee, which works to identify the best way to deliver care using current evidence, address gaps in care & support implementation of improvement to care.

Patient partners will be invited to draw upon their experience(s) of care and community knowledge to contribute to decision-focused discussions at meetings. The patient partner's role is to help the committee better understand and consider the perspectives of patients, families, and communities, and to ensure that those priorities are reflected in the decisions made.Level of Engagement
This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work with you to ensure that your ideas and concerns are reflected in recommendations and provide feedback on how your input affected the decision.Eligibility
- Have experience of health services within Island Health (as a patient, family member or informal caregiver);
- Comfortable sharing patient experiences in a group setting for the purposes of learning and quality improvement;
- A skilled listener who is respectful of a broad range of views;
- Previous experience as part of committee or quality improvement project is an asset, but is not required; and
- A good understanding of the complexity of the health care system.
Logistics
Number of vacancies: 2 with preference for 1 member from the South Island area, one member from the mid-to-North Island area Date/Time: On the fourth Wednesday of every month, in the morning from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Location: Via video conference or teleconference Commitment: One year or moreReimbursement
Local travel (mileage/parking) expenses as applicable according to Island Health rates will be reimbursed.Background
The Health Authority Medical Quality Committee (HAMQC) supports the recommendations that HAMAC is mandated to make to the Board of Directors per the Medical Staff Bylaws and supports the work required to ensure quality of medical care provided by the medical staff of Island Health. The HAMQC provides the link between the quality and medical staff structures. The committee provides advice and guidance into the quality structure, as required, and reports on quality, safety and patient experience data. The HAMQC is responsible for the making recommendations and reporting to the HAMAC or appropriate subcommittee on the provision of: (a) Reviewing and advising on medical quality assurance data and Measures; (b) Reviewing and advising on medical quality improvement initiatives and systems as deemed necessary; (c) Supporting the development and implementation of Island Health QA/QI programs; (d) Reviewing and providing guidance on issues identified by HAMAC as impacting on patient quality. Ongoing communication via meetings, minutes and other communications will help to ensure that patient partners are kept informed of updates and outcomes regarding information discussed at this table.Health Care Partner Contact Information
