Background

Fraser Health Acute Care Orientation (ACO) has provided the foundation of the orientation framework for all new Fraser Health hospital employees since 2013. This orientation program has been developed to ensure new employees across Fraser Health receive a consistent orientation, providing an overview of the roles and responsibilities of the individual employees. On average, 1100 new employees attend ACO per year. Facilitators/guest speakers have included Patient & Family Volunteers, Union stewards (BCNU, HSA, HEU), Hazardous Waste Coordinator, FH Skin & Wound Clinicians, Eye Bank Donor Development Liaison, and Site Clinical Nurse Educators. The content revision is being led by the Fraser Health Professional Practice.

PVN has really helped us engage with patient partners to improve health services at Northern Health.  It is more and more becoming the norm to include patients in the design, delivery and evaluation of health services.  PVN education and supports, involving patient partners, have enabled us to develop the capacity to include the patient voice to make care better and achieve better health outcomes.
