St. Paul’s Hospital maternal and newborn health team is participating in putting best practices into action and needs volunteers to join the team. Be part of a team committed to giving the best start possible to newborns through early attachment with human milk for babies.

Aim

As part of a pan-Canadian breastfeeding initiative, St. Paul's Hospital wants to promote, protect and support new families with early attachment to human milk. As a parent you bring your lived experience to this team to help shape the development of best practices in breastfeeding. You are asked to join the team for a minimum of one year (the project is two years in length) and attend a meeting by phone or in person each month.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will involve patients in planning and design phases to ensure ideas or concerns are considered and reflected in alternatives and recommendations.

Eligibility

• Parents • Access to a computer and ability to open documents in Word • Ability to share your story of feeding your child (human or non-human milk) • Contribute to developing best practices documents and provide feedback • Comfort being on a committee • If you have a strong interest in this work but have not yet completed a PVN orientation and Volunteer Agreement, are unsure if your experience is a good fit or feel another format of engagement would work better with your availability, please contact Cathy Almost

Logistics

• Vacancies: 4 • Date and time: TBD early September • Location: in person monthly at St. Paul's Hospital and meetings will be approximately one hour in length. • Commitment: seven months to a year

Reimbursement

As per Providence Health Care reimbursement policy we would cover the cost of transportation up to : • 60 KM @ $0.52 per km each way • Parking up to $18 per day • Transit fare to and from meeting • Child care cost recovery to attend meetings will be considered
