Aim

The goal of the Health Gateway is to provide a secure entry point to access health information using the BC Services Card to achieve a high level of identity assurance. The Health Gateway will provide a consolidated view of a patient's health information which currently resides in various health information systems and clinical repositories across the province. The patient partner will be asked to participate in demos and provide feedback on what could be improved and recommend features for future releases. The Health Gateway team hopes that the Citizen User Team will be available to shape the project for the next few months.

Background

The Digital Health Strategy (DHS), currently being co-developed by the Ministry of Health and partner organizations from across the provincial health sector, calls for a personalized patient experience, placing patients at the center of their care and empowering them to proactively manage and make decisions about their health and wellness, with no geographic barriers. To deliver on this vision, there is a need for a provincial patient platform which enables strong identity assurance and the ability to provide patients with a single online point of access into their health information and care. This project represents the first iteration of a patient centred platform, focused on delivering a secure, unified and coordinated gateway, which will provide increased access to information and services over time. As the team is committed to reviewing the product with patient partners throughout its development, patient partners will be invited to participate in product reviews throughout the development of the application. This solution is patient-centred and we will be continuously requesting feedback from patients to ensure usability, accessibility, and support while using the Health Gateway.
